In Jordan, many women face daily discomfort and safety concerns when using public transportation or regular ride services, with studies showing that over 60% have experienced some form of harassment. At the same time, many qualified women struggle to find flexible and stable employment opportunities. These two challenges limit independence, confidence, and economic participation. In response, our project introduces Himaya, a women-only ride service designed to solve both issues at once by improving transportation safety while creating jobs for women. The service operates through an app that connects users with trained and verified female drivers, ensuring a secure, respectful, and trust-based environment. Key features include real-time ride tracking, guardian-linked accounts for younger users, a teen mode for added safety, and flexible booking options such as hourly rides for errands and multiple stops. The platform also offers different ride categories, including normal, premium, family, and kids, with comfort-focused car designs and user-friendly features that improve the overall experience. What makes Himaya unique is that it addresses two social needs with one business model: protecting women as passengers while empowering women as drivers. Unlike existing ride services, Himaya is built specifically around women’s needs, combining safety, personalization, and community impact. Looking ahead, the project aims to launch in Amman, expand to other cities and rural areas, and partner with schools, businesses, and organizations to provide specialized transportation solutions. Ultimately, Himaya seeks to transform mobility in Jordan by turning transportation into a source of safety, opportunity, and independence for women.
